How to create a party and join voice chat on PS5 consoles

How to create a party on PS5™ consoles

Want a space where you can talk with multiple players? Create a party and invite your friends to chat.

  1. Press the PS button to open the control centre, and then select Game Base.
  2. From the Parties tab, select the + icon and then Create Party.
  3. Select the players that you want to be in your party.
  4. If you select players that you're already in a party with, those parties are displayed. To create a new party with these players, select Create New Party.
  5. Send a message to get the conversation going.

How to remove a player from a party on PS5 consoles

If you created the party, you are the party owner and can remove players 

Highlight a player in the member list, press the options button, and then select Kick Out.

How to join a party on PS5 consoles

  1. Press the PS button to display the control centre and select Game Base
  2. Select the party from the list of your recent parties. If you don't see it there, select View All Parties.

The initial party view allows you to send text messages and join voice chat. To send captures and other types of messages, select ... More and then select View Party.

  1. Press the PS button to go to the control centre and select Game Base.
  2. Select View All Parties and select a party.

(A) Chat history 
See messages, captures, game invites and more that players in your party have sent.

Text messages
Use the on-screen or an external keyboard to type your message.

Screenshots and Video Clips
Share your screenshots and video clips (up to 3 minutes) with the party.

Give your message more personality by sending a sticker.

Voice messages
Record a short voice message for your party to hear. The maximum length for your voice messages is 15 seconds.

(B) Party features

Voice Chat
Start or join a voice chat where you can share your screen and use Share Play. When you're already in a voice chat with the party, you can access its card from here.

Invite to Game
Invite all party members to your current game or start a new game.

Add Players
Add players to your party.

Shared Media
View all the screenshots and video clips sent by members in your party.

Add to Favourites
Add a party to your favourites. Your favourite parties appear first in Game Base.

Allow Notifications
Turn notifications on or off for the party.

Party Settings
You can change the party name and image. This option is available only for parties with three or more members.

If you see an offensive party name or party image, you can submit a report.

If you leave the party, you won't be able to see its messages anymore.

Party members are listed in order of online availability. Select a member to view their profile

How to start or join party voice chat on PS5 consoles

If someone in your party starts a voice chat, a notification appears in the top-right corner of the screen. To join it, press the PS button and then select Join.

You can also share your games with members of your party through Share Screen and Share Play.

  1. Press the PS button to go to the control centre and select Game Base.
  2. From the Parties or Friends tab, select the party or online friend you want to voice chat with.
  3. Select Voice Chat.
  4. Select Join.
    Voice chat starts. You can manage the chat from the voice chat card in the control centre. Any members of the party can join the voice chat. You can also add other friends and players to your party and the voice chat.
  1. Go to the control centre and select Game Base.
  2. From the Parties tab, find a party with an active voice chat that you want to join.
    You'll know a party has a voice chat going on when you see Voice Chat next to the party name.
  3. Select the party, and then select Join Voice Chat.
    You join the voice chat. You can manage it from the card in the control centre. The members of the voice chat are notified that you've joined.

Press the PS button and select the voice chat card from the control centre to manage your ongoing voice chat:

(A) Type of voice chat
See what type of voice chat you're currently using.  Voice chat started in Game Base is called party voice chat. An in-game voice chat is called game voice chat.

(B) Switch between Party and Game voice chats
You can browse through the ongoing voice chats that you're a part of. Select a chat and select Switch to start chatting.

(C) Party voice chat features

Start Share Screen  
Share your game screen to all PS5 members in the voice chat. You can also start Share Play to let another player try the game you're playing or to help you out.

Invite to Game
Invite members in the party voice chat to your current game session or start a new one together.

Audio Balance
Adjust the audio balance between the voice chat and other audio on your console.

Leave Voice Chat
You can leave the current party voice chat that you are a part of.

Add Players
Not only will you add players to the voice chat, they'll be added to the party too. The maximum number of players that can be in a party voice chat is 16.

Mute Voice Chat

Adjust your microphone level or allow your voice to be used in other players' broadcasts and video clips. 

Chat Transcription
Convert the voices of other players to text, and read aloud text you enter to other players.

If you have an issue with something that was said in the voice chat by a member, you can submit a report.

View Party
View the details of your party in Game Base. 

(D) Member List
Select a member to mute them, view their profile or perform other actions.

How to change volume for individual players 

  1. Press the PS button to open the control centre and then select the Voice Chat card.
  2. Select a player and select Volume to lower or raise the player's chat volume. This setting will be used in your other chats with that player.

Please note that this feature affects only how you hear other players. It doesn't affect how other players hear you.

How to disable game chat audio on a PS5 console

This setting affects only game chat audio. You can also find this setting in Voice Chat Settings in Game Base.

  • Press the PS button to go to the control centre, select Sound, and then select Disable Game Chat Audio.
