What is Roblox?
There are millions of user-created games and 3D experiences on Roblox, spanning traditional genres like action, adventure, role-playing and sports to interactive social spaces where players can connect and play together.
Roblox also offers tools at no extra cost that enable players to express their creativity by building their own games on the Roblox platform.
Yes. Roblox is free to download and play, with optional in-game transactions through a virtual currency called Robux.
See the ‘Does Roblox have in-game purchases?’ FAQ for more information.
Many experiences on the Roblox platform encourage problem-solving and design thinking – and with Roblox’s design tool, Roblox Studio, your child can begin learning to code by building their own games.
Most Roblox experiences are multiplayer by default, allowing players to build, explore and play together online. Players can join public games, play with friends, or be invited to private games, also known as ‘Private Servers’. Users under the age of 13 can only join private games from connections in their connections list, and only their connections can join those private games. Parents can turn off access to these private games in parental controls.
Upon completing an age check, players gain access to chat features based on their specific age band and any required parental consent. All text chat is filtered to block inappropriate content and personal information. Players under 13 have stricter default settings that block private messaging in games and limit text chat to in games.
Players aged 13 and over can designate people they know to be a Trusted Connection. If two players agree to add each other as a Trusted Connection, they’ll be granted additional features like Party Chat and chat without filters. This function is designed to let players easily communicate with people they know and trust. If one player removes the other from their list of Trusted Connections, then neither player will see the other as a Trusted Connection.
Parental Controls allow you to mute and report players at any time.

How do parental controls work in Roblox?
By creating and linking your Roblox account to your child's, you'll have the ability to monitor their activity, adjust privacy and content settings and access helpful insights – all from your own device.
Flexible parental controls are also available via PS4 and PS5, allowing you to create a safer, age-appropriate gaming experience.
To set up Parental Controls, you’ll need to link your Roblox account to your child’s.
First, create a Roblox account by opening Roblox on your PlayStation console or by visiting roblox.com, then follow the sign-up steps. Make sure to enter your real date of birth to enable access to Parental Controls and age-appropriate settings.
Then, ask your child to go to Settings > Parental Controls > Manage > Add parent > add your email address to link your account and complete verification.
You can now manage your child’s account from your device and receive notifications of their activity.
Parental Controls let you take an active role in your child’s Roblox experience. With these settings, you’ll be able to restrict the types of content they can access, determine who they can communicate with on Roblox and monitor their activity.
Select a content maturity level for your child's account, see their most-played experiences and block any experiences.
Manage who your child chats with by adjusting controls for specific chat features.
View your child's Roblox Friends, check their profiles and block accounts as needed.
Track their weekly activity with a graph of total time spent and a list of their most-played experiences.
Set a monthly spending limit for your child’s Roblox purchases, including Robux or subscriptions and receive email alerts.
Review your child’s screen time and set daily limits on how long they can play Roblox.
You can enable parental controls on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 consoles in addition to Roblox’s own Parental Controls.
Roblox will prioritise your PlayStation preferences when it comes to purchases, communications and blocked players.

Does Roblox have in-game purchases?
Here’s what you need to know about in-game purchases – and how to stay in control.
Robux are not earnable on the Roblox platform. Robux can only be purchased with real-world currency via your PlayStation console or through the Roblox website and mobile app. Be aware that any offer claiming to provide free Robux, memberships, or rare items outside of Roblox is a scam – these are often designed to trick children and compromise accounts.
Using PlayStation Family Management settings or the linked Roblox parent account, you can fully control how much your child can spend on Roblox. Set a monthly spending limit, receive email notifications for every purchase and review their transaction history at any time. Use both tools for greater oversight and tighter control.
Stay informed about and involved in your kids’ gameplay by managing playtime, spending, messaging and more with the free PlayStation Family app.
