How to change privacy settings on PlayStation™Network

Learn how to control who can communicate with you or see your activity on PlayStation Network (PSN).

Players can limit how visible they are to other users on PlayStation Network using privacy settings. You can customise the following features:

  • Messages
  • Friend requests 
  • Voice and video chat invitations 
  • Invitations to play online 
  • Trophies

PlayStation 4 has additional social options which are grouped into three areas:
 

  • Gaming | Media: Choose who can see your shared Media and Recent Activities.
  • Friends | Connections: Control who can send you Friend requests, follow your account and see your connections.
  • Personal Info | Messaging: Choose who can see your real name and communicate with you.
Parental controls set by a Family Manager will override any privacy settings selected by a child account. If parental controls allow, a child can adjust their privacy settings using the steps below.
 
 

How to change privacy settings on PSN

Please select your  PlayStation® system from the list below:

Web browser: set PSN privacy settings

  1. Go to account management on a connected device.

  2. Select [PSN privacy settings] > select the feature you would like to change privacy settings for > [Edit].

  3. Choose who you want to allow from the drop-down menu and select [Confirm].

  • PS4 privacy settings

    There are a few extra ways to communicate and share your information on PlayStation 4, so make sure you check all three options in the privacy settings menu.

    1. Go to [Settings] > [Account Management] > [Privacy Settings] and enter your password.
    2. Select the feature you would like to change privacy settings for.
    3. Choose who you want to allow from the drop-down menu: Friends, Friends of Friends or No One and select [Confirm].
  • PS3 privacy settings

    1. Go to  [PlayStation Network] > [Account Management] > [Privacy Settings].
    2. Enter your password.
    3. Select who you would like to receive Friend Requests and Messages from, and select [Confirm].
  • PS Vita / TV privacy settings

    1. Go to  [Settings] > [Start] >  [PlayStation Network] > [Privacy Settings].
    2. Select who you would like to receive Friend Requests and Messages from, and select ‘Confirm’.

    Please note that selecting ‘No One’ will mean that you will not receive any invitations or requests from any PlayStation Network users, including those already on your Friends List.
