Getting started with 'That’s You!' on PS4

Game and device set up and troubleshooting.

 
 

‘That’s You!’ is played using tablets or smartphones and your PlayStation 4 system, with up to six players. Each player needs their own Android or iOS mobile device with the ‘That’s You!’ app installed.

What you need to get started

Please note that selected devices are not compatible with ‘That’s You!’. See more info here.

How to get set up

  1. Download and install the app
  • Search your device app store for ‘That’s You!’ and follow the usual process to download and install it.
  1. Connect your mobile devices to your PS4 system
  • There are two ways to connect:

Wi-Fi Network

Connect your mobile devices to the same Wi-Fi network as your PS4 system.

Check your PS4 system’s Wi-Fi connection by going to [Settings] > [Network] > [View Connection Status] and check the SSID option:

You won't see this SSID option if your PS4 is connected to your local network via LAN cable. In this case, just make sure your mobile devices are connected to the same router - the SSID is usually on a sticker attached to your router.

PS4 Wi-Fi Hotspot

Connect your mobile devices to the Wi-Fi Hotspot created by your PS4 system.

  1. Start ‘That’s You!’ on your PS4 system.
  2. On the main ‘That’s You!’ menu on your PS4, press the OPTIONS button on the DualShock 4 wireless controller.
  3. On your PS4, select [Wi-Fi hotspot] > [Yes] > [Yes] to show the Wi-Fi hotspot details.
  4. On each mobile device go to the Settings menu and under Wi-Fi settings select the PS4 hotspot that you’ve just enabled.

Note:

  • Internet/PSN features will be disabled while the PS4 Wi-fi Hotspot connection remains active. Turn off the PS4 Wi-Fi Hotspot connection directly from the game settings or by closing the game.
  • The PS4 Wi-Fi hotspot feature doesn't provide internet access on your mobile device. However, some devices will ask you if you want to use this internet connection when you connect to the PS4 Wi-Fi Hotspot. If this happens, select [Yes] and choose the option to not ask this again, if it's available.
  1. Launch the app and select [Play]
  • The app will try to find the PS4 connected to the same network/hotspot and synchronise with it.

For best gameplay experience with PlayLink titles, the PS4 should be connected to your Wi-Fi router via a network (LAN) cable, with the router in the same room as the PS4 and devices, and phones should use a 5ghz connection to the Wi-Fi router; 5ghz Wi-Fi is often enabled on modern routers and should have _5G or similar in the Wi-Fi name (SSID).  Older devices may not support 5ghz Wi-Fi, although you can connect some devices via 2.4ghz and some via 5ghz as long as they are all connecting to the same router.

Issues connecting a mobile device

If your device isn’t properly connected to ‘That’s You!’ on your PS4 system, or the game isn’t running or is still starting up, you may see an error screen. Select the connection method, either Wi-Fi network or Wi-Fi hotspot for more help.

  • Problems connecting to Wi-Fi Network

    You’ll see this error screen on your mobile device if connection to the PS4 over the Wi-Fi network has failed:

    1. Make sure your mobile device is connected to the same network as your PS4 system.

    Check the network your PS4 system is connected to by going to [Settings] > [Network] > [View Connection Status] and check the SSID option.

    You won't see this SSID option if your PS4 is connected to your local network via LAN cable. In this case, just make sure your mobile devices are connected to the same router - the SSID is usually on a sticker attached to your router.

    On your mobile device, check your Wi-Fi network via the Settings menu to make sure the network names match:

    1. Check your mobile device Wi-Fi settings

    Some devices may switch away from the Wi-Fi Network you're using because they're set up to look for the best possible internet connection. You can often switch this feature off in your device's Wi-Fi settings or tell your phone to 'forget' the network it keeps connecting to (you can re-enable this connection later).

    1. Switch to a different Wi-Fi range

    A 5ghz connection is recommended if you have a PS4 Pro or PS4 Slim system, but if you're far away from your router, or do not have a PS4 Pro or Slim system, try a 2.4ghz connection instead.

    1. If the problem persists, try connecting via the PS4 Wi-Fi Hotspot instead.
    1. Check your mobile device battery

    Ideally you should have a full battery, but we recommend at least 30%. You can play while charging your device.

    1. Are downloads using bandwidth?
    • Make sure your PS4 system isn’t downloading any updates in the background. Go to [Notifications] > [Downloads] and pause or cancel anything that’s downloading.
    • Make sure your mobile device isn’t downloading any updates.
    • Close all apps, except for ‘That’s You!’, on your mobile device.
    1. Some devices cause Wi-Fi interference. Switch off as many of these devices as possible:
    • Mobile devices (that you’re not using to play!)
    • Microwave ovens
    • Hairdryers
    • Cordless land line phones
    • Printers
    • Any other devices that access the internet
    1. Make sure that your PS4 and/or Wi-Fi router are positioned to optimise connectivity. Don’t place them:
    • In an enclosed space, like a cupboard or behind something – you should be able to see your router and PS4 system.
    • Close to a fish tank or lots of wires or other metal objects.
    • Near to other wireless devices – keep them at least a metre away from devices like wireless speakers or laptops.
    1. VPN mobile apps can affect connectivity.
    • Close these apps if you have them running or try deleting them if you're still experiencing issues.
  • Problems connecting to a PS4 Wi-Fi Hotspot

    You’ll see this error screen on your mobile device if connection to the PS4 Wi-Fi hotspot has failed.

    1. Enter the PS4 IP address manually.
    • On the PS4 system go to [Settings] > [System] > [System Information].
    • On the ‘That’s You!’ app tap [Connection Help] > [Enter IP Address] and type the PS4 IP address.
    1. Check your mobile device Wi-Fi settings
