The USS Mt. St. Helens is captured by Somali pirates in the Indian Ocean. The government needs an agent to infiltrate the vessel and secure its top secret cargo. It's too sensitive a mission to send the military in and only one man can do the job: Gabe Logan. With his covert team, Gabe's saved the world before but this time the odds are stacked against him.

Logan's mission appears clear, but, as if this operation isn't challenging enough, he's faced with the possibility that his long-term partner, Lian Xing, is a double agent. With his operation compromised and the US Government breathing down his neck, Gabe's resolve is tested to the absolute limit, not least when he also realises that a mysterious figure is shadowing his every move...

He wants answers - and he's going to get them by doing what he does best - stealthy reconnaissance and ruthless elimination of his enemies.

    • Gripping storyline by thriller novelist and DC Comics star writer Greg Rucka.
    • New gameplay features including underwater combat and realistic environment physics.
    • Take on your friends in multiplayer Ad Hoc Mode.

    The name's Logan...

The fate of the world hangs in the balance in Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow on PSP.

Fresh from saving the world in the excellent Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror, Gabe Logan is back in his biggest adventure yet. Sent on a special ops mission to retrieve a package containing a dangerous, high-tech weapon from a supply ship's cargo hold, Gabe discovers that the ship has been hijacked and the weapon stolen.

To add insult to injury, Gabe's partner of 10 years, Lian Xing, has disappeared under suspicion of being a double agent. Not believing the stories, Gabe sets out on his own, travelling the world in order to find Lian and recover the stolen technology.

Early versions of the game reveal an experience that builds on the success of the previous game, while bringing in new features to make the game even more fun to play. Using the same close-up third-person view as Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror, Logan's Shadow continues the series' emphasis on stealth-orientated action.

The controls are simple - the analogue stick moves Gabe, the action buttons are used to look and aim, and the R button fires your current weapon. It's a pleasingly intuitive system that lets you get right to the action without having to think too much about the controls. You'll need it too, as the array of weaponry and gadgets on display is even more extensive than the previous game's already impressive roster.

    Take cover!

A few other additions have been included to keep the gameplay fresh. The cover system has been updated with the addition of side-to-side movement, leaning and blind fire around corners and obstacles - useful for suppressing fire or taking down a visible enemy without exposing yourself to attack. The physics system has also been given an upgrade and Gabe can now use enemies as human shields, as well as utilise full 360-degree underwater combat.

The game manages to balance the stealth and action elements extremely well and each mission has plenty of checkpoints, meaning you don't have to retrace your steps too much when you die, and also making the game perfect for pick-up-and play sessions when you're out and about.

Special mention has to be given to the graphics. The game looks absolutely gorgeous, with large, well-drawn characters, stunningly lifelike backdrops and some of the smoothest animation ever to grace the PSP screen. Add to this some excellent voice acting from a talented cast and an excellent, engrossing story written by acclaimed Batman scribe Greg Rucka and Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow feels like a blockbuster summer action movie in the palm of your hand.

Early versions of the game are looking extremely positive, and Syphon Filter is shaping up to be one of the most thrilling, explosive and engrossing PSP games of 2007, so keep checking for more info on this highly-anticipated mission.
