PlayStation 3 Hard Disk Drive (HDD) file system is corrupted

Find out what to do, if your PlayStation 3 system HDD becomes corrupted or you receive a corrupt data message.

 
 
  1. Ensure that the latest system software update is installed on your PlayStation 3 system.
  • To check the system software, access the XMB Menu and choose System Settings > [System Information].
  • Visit the Sony PlayStation update page and update to the latest version of the system software. 
 
 
  1. Access Safe Mode and restore your PlayStation 3 system’s data.
  • You can use Safe Mode on your PlayStation 3 to remove corrupt data from the HDD.
  • On the Safe Mode Menu, choose option 3, Restore File System.  If the problem persists, choose option 4, Rebuild Database.
  • (3) Restore File System: the PlayStation 3 system will try to repair any areas on the HDD where files can be saved.
  • (4) Rebuild Database: the PlayStation 3 system will delete all data on the HDD and rebuild the database.
