Reset forgotten PSN password on Primary PS4

If you have access to a PS4 that you have activated as your 'Primary PS4', you can reset your password in a couple of clicks — all you need is access to your PSN Sign-in ID (email address):

  1. From the PS4 home screen, go to [Settings] > [Account Management] > [Sign In].
  2. On the sign-in screen, press  (triangle button) and select [Next] to send a password reset email to the Sign-in ID (email address) shown on this screen.
  3. Click the link in the email and enter a new password.

Reset a forgotten PSN password

  • Web browser

    1. Go to the Account Management sign-in page and select ‘Trouble signing in?’ > ‘Reset your password’  and enter your Sign in ID (email address). 
    2. You will be emailed a secure link which expires after 24 hours. The verification email can take a few minutes to arrive. If you haven't received it within 24 hours, please click here for more help. 
    3. Follow the secure link, fill in the requested information and create a new password using a mixture of upper and lower-case letters, numbers and special characters.

  • PS4 (non-primary)

    1. From the PS4 home screen, go to [Settings] > [Account Management] > [Sign In]. 
    2. On the sign-in screen, press  (triangle button) and select [Next] to send a password reset email to the Sign-in ID (email address) shown on this screen.

    1. From the PS3 home screen, go to [PlayStation Network] > [Sign in]. On the sign-in screen select 'Forgot Your Password?’, enter your Sign-in ID (Email Address), your date of birth and select ‘Confirm’. 
    2. You will be emailed a secure link which expires after 24 hours. The verification email can take a few minutes to arrive. If you haven't received it within 24 hours, please click here for more help.
    3. Follow the secure link, fill in the requested information and create a new password using a mixture of upper and lower-case letters, numbers and special characters.

  • PS Vita / PS TV

    1. Select  [Settings] >  [PlayStation Network] > [Sign In] > [Forgot Your Password?]. Enter your Sign-in ID (Email Address), your date of birth and select 'Next'.

Change a known PSN password

  • Web browser

    1. Sign in to account management
    2. Select [Security] from the sidebar.
    3. Click [Edit] next to Password to change your password.
    4. Click [Save] to confirm your changes.

    You can now sign in to your account using your new password.

  • PS4

    1. Go to [Settings] > [Account Management] > [Account Information] and enter your password.

    2. Select [Security] > [Password]. Choose and confirm the new password, then select ‘Continue’.

      You can now sign in to your account using your new password.
  • PS3

    1. Go to [PlayStation Network] > [Account Management] > [Account Information] > [Password].

    2. Enter your password, choose a new password and select ‘Confirm’.

      You can now sign in to your account using your new password.
  • PS Vita / PS TV

    1. Select [Settings] > [PlayStation Network] and enter your password.

    2. On the Account Information page, choose a new password, confirm it and select [Save].

      You can now sign in to your account using your new password.

     

 
 

Received a password reset email you didn't ask for?

If the email says that PSN or SEN has reset your password, this is nothing to worry about. Passwords are regularly reset in order to ensure that accounts are kept secure. Just follow the instructions on this page to reset your password.

If the email doesn't state that the reset was initiated by PSN or SEN, someone else might be trying to access your account. We recommend that you complete the following steps to secure your account:

  • Change the password on your email account. If you have problems doing this, please contact your email provider as soon as possible. 
  • If you were able to change the password on your email account, follow the steps on this page to reset your  account password. 
  • Contact us* as soon as you can if you can't reset your account password.

Don't have your verification information?

You need to be able to verify your identity in order to reset your PSN password — this is to keep your account safe.

If you cannot provide the verification information that was entered when the account was set up or open the password reset email, you will need to contact us. You can find the appropriate contact number by clicking here, typing ‘forgotten password’ into the search bar and selecting your PlayStation system — the ‘call us’ option will appear at the bottom of the page.

 
 

Issues resetting a PSN password

 

Under 18?

Only a family manager can reset a child account password. Ask the family manager to sign in to Account Management on a web browser.

The family manager can then go to [Account] > [Family Management]. From this menu they can select your local user and [Reset Password].

Didn't receive an email?

  1. Do you have a child account?
  • Only the family manager can reset your forgotten password. Ask them to go to [Settings] > [Parental Controls/Family Management] > [Family Management]. From this menu they can select your local user and select [Reset Password].
  1. Is the email in your spam folder?
  • Check your email inbox for making sure to search for 'Sony' in all mailboxes, including any spam or junk folders. 
  1. Did you enter the wrong email address?
  • Repeat the password reset steps and make sure the email address shown on the “Forgot Your Password?” screen is the email address you use to sign in to your account.
