How do I set up the Wireless Stereo Headset on my PlayStation 3 system?

Find out how to set up the Wireless Stereo Headset on a PlayStation 3 system.

  1. Insert the wireless adaptor into the USB connector of your PlayStation 3 system.
  2. Ensure the headset is charged by connecting it to the PlayStation 3 system using a USB cable (supplied separately). If the headset battery is low when the headset is connected and receiving an audio signal, an alert tone will be emitted.
  3. Press and hold the POWER/MIC MUTING button for two seconds to turn the headset on.
  4. Ensure that the latest PlayStation 3 system software is installed by going to Settings > [System Update] on the XMB Menu. If a system software update is available, download and install it. The installed system software must be version 3.70 or later in order for the headset to function properly.
  5. The headset should now be ready to use.
  6. Note: the headset’s Virtual Surround feature is turned on by default. To turn this feature off, press and hold the VIRTUAL SURROUND ON/OFF button for two seconds.
  7. You can choose to hear only chat in the headset, or to hear both chat and game audio simultaneously. You can toggle between these options from the XMB Menu by going to Settings > [Accessory Settings] > [Stereo Headset Audio Extension].
