The PlayStation 3 system Hard Disk Drive (HDD) can’t save or load game data

Find out what to do if your PlayStation 3 system’s Hard Disk Drive is having problems saving or loading game data.

 
 
  1. Ensure that the latest system software update is installed on your PlayStation 3 system
  • To check the system software, access the XMB Menu and choose System Settings > [System Information]. 
  • Visit the Sony PlayStation update page and update to the latest version of the system software.
 
 
  1. Delete the game file using the Game Data Utility
  • Individual game saves or other files may have become corrupted and will need to be deleted.
  • Access the XMB Menu and choose Game > [Game Data Utility].
  • Select the game data file you want to delete.

If the problem persists, you may need to restore your PlayStation 3 system.

  1. Access Safe Mode and restore your PlayStation 3 system’s data * You can use Safe Mode to remove corrupt data from the HDD.
  • On the Safe Mode Menu, choose option 4, Rebuild Database.
  • (4) Rebuild Database: the PlayStation 3 system will delete all data on the HDD and rebuild the database.
 
 
  1. Reinstall the game
  • To reinstall the game, reinsert the disc or re-download the game from your PlayStation Store Download List.
