Stream and download PlayStation Now games

Find out how to stream or download PS Now games, and how to manage save data between PS Now, online and local storage.

All PlayStation Now games can be streamed on PS4 or Windows PC (minimum requirements apply), whilst hundreds of PS4 games can be downloaded to your PS4.

How are PS Now games streamed?

PS Now games are streamed from our servers over your internet connection*, just like streaming a movie. This means you won’t have to download anything to your PS4 or PC and the entire game library is immediately available for you to play as and when you want.

*PS Now games are streamed at a maximum resolution of 720p. Streamed games are available in stereo only and surround sound is not supported.

How do I save a streamed game?

Streamed games auto-save data to PlayStation Now cloud storage, which allows data to be accessed from any PlayStation Now compatible device. Saved game data is not automatically transferred between games installed on your local PS4 system and streaming games launched on PlayStation Now.

PS Now does not support PlayStation Plus auto-upload to online storage. PlayStation Plus cloud saves can be transferred manually to PlayStation Now, and vice versa, using the Save Data Management functionality on PS4 and Save Data Utility option on PS3 games.

Why is there a queue for the game I want to play?

Streaming users may be required to wait to gain access to certain titles during periods of high traffic.

If you’re ever in a queue on PS4, you can press the PS button to go back to the main menu and use any PlayStation 4 functions while you wait. You will be notified when you reach the front of the queue.

Alternatively, start downloading a PS4 game to your console immediately.

Can I use PlayStation Network features when streaming a game?

Streamed PS Now games are not compatible with:

  • The Share button and Share functionality
  • Video chat
  • Using controller motion input while using the PS4 keyboard
  • Share Play
  • Broadcast
  • PS VR
  • PS Camera

Which PS Now games can be downloaded?

Hundreds of PS4 games are available to download to your PS4, with more being added every month. As you browse through the games on PlayStation Now, you’ll see a new tag in the game preview section at the top telling you if the game is downloadable.

  • You can download as many games as you like, depending on available PS4 system storage space.
  • When playing a downloaded game, you’ll need to connect to PSN at least once a week to allow us to validate your PlayStation Now subscription and maintain access to the game.
  • Save data is not automatically transferred between streamed and downloaded PS Now games.
  • This feature is not available for Windows or macOS computers.

How do I download PS Now games?

Once you have subscribed to the service, downloading your favourite PS Now titles is simple:

  1. Open PS Now > [Browse Games] and open the game you want to download.
  2. A tag within the Game preview section will show if the game download is available and the size of the download file.
  3. Select [Download] and wait for the download to complete.

Where can I find my downloaded PS Now games?

You can access a downloaded PS Now game via the PS Now app or directly from your PS4 system Library:

  • PS Now app:  Open the app > [Browse Games] > select the game > [Start Game].
  • PS4 Library: Open the Library > [Games] > select the game to start.

Can I stream and download a game at the same time?

Yes.  Depending on your internet connection you may experience reduced streaming quality or decreased download speed.

When playing a downloaded game, you’ll need to connect to PSN at least once a week to allow us to validate your PlayStation Now subscription and maintain access to the game.

What resolutions are supported for downloaded PS Now games?

A game downloaded via PlayStation Now will output at its native resolution on the PS4.

How do DLC and add-ons work with downloaded games?

You can purchase and use any DLC and add-on content from the PS Store with games downloaded from PlayStation Now.  If your PlayStation Now subscription expires, you’ll lose access to both the downloaded game and any DLC or add-on content associated with it. However, should you re-subscribe to PlayStation Now or purchase the game from PlayStation Store, you’ll be able to use your purchased DLC and add-on content again.

How do I manage PS Now game save data?

PS Plus online storage acts as a middle ground between the two save types. Game save data is not automatically transferred between streamed and downloaded games, so you will need to manually upload your save to continue. First upload the PS Now save to online storage:

  • Streamed PS Now game: start streaming the game > press the PS Button > [Application Saved Data Management] > [Saved Data on PS Now] > [Copy to Online Storage].
  • Downloaded PS Now game: highlight the application in [Library] > press the Options button > [Upload/Download Saved Data] > [Upload].

Once the PS Now save file is in online storage, you can simply download it from the cloud and carry on playing your PS Now game:

  • Streamed PS Now game: Start streaming the game > press the PS Button > [Application Saved Data Management] > [Saved Data in Online Storage] > [Copy to PS Now].
  • Downloaded PS Now game: highlight the application in [Library] > press the Options button > [Upload/Download Saved Data] > [Download].
