Setting up a wireless Internet connection using the [Easy] settings

If you would like to set up your PlayStation 3 to a Wireless Network (Wi-Fi) using the [Easy] settings, this article will take you through the necessary steps to do so.

Before you begin:

  • Ensure that the settings for the wireless access point (usually a router) are correct and that its power cable is properly connected. If it is battery-powered, check that the batteries have not run out.
  • Ensure that the Ethernet cable is not connected to the PlayStation 3 system. If the Ethernet cable is connected, the PlayStation 3 system will automatically attempt to connect to the Internet via a wired connection.
  1. Access the XMB Menu and choose [  Settings] > [ Network Settings].

  1. Choose [Internet Connection] > [Enabled].
  2. Scroll down and select [Internet Connection Settings].

  1. When you are asked if it is okay to disconnect the PlayStation 3 system from the Internet, select [Yes].
  2. When you are asked to select a [setting method], choose [Easy].
  3. When you are asked to select a [connection method], choose [Wireless].
  4. When you are asked to enter [WLAN Settings], choose [Scan]. NOTE: if your wireless access point supports AOSS, select the [Automatic] option.
  5. Choose your access point from the list of SSIDs displayed.
  6. Press the [RIGHT] button to confirm the SSID.
  7. Choose your wireless access point’s security setting from those displayed.
  8. Enter your wireless access point’s security key and press the START button to confirm. Press the [RIGHT] button to proceed.
  9. You may be required to adjust additional settings, e.g. PPPoE, proxy server or IP address. If necessary, refer to the hardware manual supplied with your wireless access point.
  10. When you are asked to test the connection, press the  button to confirm.
  1. An on-screen message will be displayed informing you whether the PlayStation 3 system was able to establish a connection.
