Update files copying

Why is the PS4 copying game updates after they got downloaded?

This is has to be something new which came with the latest update. For me the copying takes longer than the download itself.

Does anybody know why the PS4 is doing this now ?

What do you mean by "copying" them, downloading the same update twice ??

If it is saying copying after downloading then that means something has gone wrong somewhere.

    Cancel and delete the download.

Then do a rebuild of the database from safe mode.

After the ps4 restarts start the download again and it should go straight to installing rather than copying after the download.

Hmm okay. But why has this even come up now? Don't you think it will maybe get fixed with the the final 5.0 update ?

    I'm in Beta right now

But a friend of mine who's not in Beta had the same yesterday after 4.74 update

Does rebuilding the Data base take a long time?

Nope,  it's a short haul of a job to do...  takes very little time

I have the same issue along with some friend of mine. Did the HDD database rebuild with no change.. copying the update takes significant more time than downloading it.. Did you find any solution or that's how it's supposed to be now?

I did everything you said and it still says "Copying" when i'm done downloading files :(

Same issue since the software update. I am using an external HD for extra storage, are any of you guys also doing so? I am wondering if for some reason it is downloading the file onto the wrong drive and then the copying is it transferring it to the correct place. Only a theory...

I'm not using an external HDD and it's still doing it. But for me it was for a Neverwinter v4.10 which appeared about 30 minutes ago for me, even though server maintenance ended 3 hours ago. Yesterday, in early morning, they updated Neverwinter. I'm wondering if it was just copying the parts of the same updated that weren't buggy and overwriting the parts that were. Rather than patching with an entirely new update.

Mine is doing this now too. Rebuilding the database solved it initially, but a few days on it's doing it again. Even for a small update the copying phase takes ages.

Same for me, just recognized it with the Elite Dangerous Update. 250mb download, but copying takes at least 5 minutes... Quite annoying. Have anybody filed a support ticket?

I have just spoken with their support. This is a new process and this is how it will be from now on.. they won’t tell the reason  but there is nothing we can do in order to stop it..

I think they have fobbed you off with some excuse there.

If it was something new this thread would be full of complaints. But as you can see it is only affecting a handful of people.

I don't think it takes longer. Before the update it would do "preparing for download" which sometimes took longer then the actual download. Now that seems to be gone and it downloads straight away when there is an update file, and then does the new copy thing. So overall it probably takes the same as before.

Well, even though it may be unessisary, if it is actually copying the update, then it's just a way to save a duplicate in case something goes wrong. If the above is true then the extra time is just the hardrive speed. It's slower than the download speed lol.:Cookie:

This only just happened for me with Rocket League 1.38. Seems to be certain games or patches, since some are mainly mentioning Destiny and Elite Dangerous.

Yea it keeps happening with me as well for the overwatch Halloween update but it won't ever finishing copying it always fails. But when I updated destiny 2 yesterday it just installed normally.
