Unsolvable Software Issue

Hello, I am writing this on behalf of a friend. Here is the problem. He downloaded SkyGo on his PS4 and suddenly the system just shut down. He booted it in safe mode and reinstalled the system with the latest update file (option 7).

This seemed to work initially, but as he downloaded a different app (Gamepass), the PS4 shut down after ten minutes. Now not even the previous workaround has helped.

He has reinitialised, and attempted to reinstall. This goes quickly to 50% then immediately to 100%. It then says that the update is being prepared, gets to 100% at a steady pace, then the console turns off again. Now safe mode only shows option 7, with the rest greyed out.

Once, they were all available. He attempted to rebuild the database. As it clicked to perform the action, the console turned off again. Now safe mode only gives option 7.

Any clues that might help us?

The console will only turn itself off when it's overheating. The fact that it's doing so after 10 or so minutes is a sign of an overheating APU. Either the vents and fan are clogged to the nines with dust, and thus the console needs a good clean - inside and outside (videos available on YouTube showing what to do - but only if not under warranty), or the internal fan on the cooler has a burned out motor, which would need to be replaced. How hot is the top of the console when it turns itself off?
