slow and sluggish home menu on ps4

Created 04/07/2015

I have had my pa4 for a while and it has been fine, but now it just seems to be slow. I have a 2tb HDD in there and I don't know if that is the cause. I'm just really worried that something is wrong.

Try booting the PS4 in safe mode and select option 5 rebuild the database,I do this at least a couple of times a month and have done so for years with the PS3.It kind of works like a defrag does on a PC and keeps things running smoothly.

Switch the PS4 off incase you usually drop the system into rest mode, press and hold the on/off button till you hear the second beep.Connect the DS4 via it's charging cable and run option 5 rebuild the database,no data will be lost unless it's corrupted data, and make sure your latest saves are uploaded or backed up prior to running safe mode incase of a problem.

If you regularly put your PS4 into rest mode switch it off fully now and again it may help the system to make sure all background processes are killed off once in a while.

Might be. Some of my games seem to lag a bit more then they should but I might just be paranoid. Thanks for replying. I do have a pretty big HDD though. Might be the case.

Thank God I'm not the only one. My homepage really gets sluggish at times.

Rebuilding the data base seems to work for a short while, but it's not permanent at least in my case. Now this lag isn't a big issue for me and I'm not too worried anymore I was just wondering if anyone else had it. Thank you for replying

Mine is the same sometimes, with some stuttering when i scroll across the UI where the games icons are, i only notice it when i first boot it, so i thought it was just a case of it needing to warm up

I'll reduild the database and see what happens anyway

Mine stutters when I scroll at full speed. It's not all the time but it is frequent.

It happens to me straight after I close down a game or app.

It just goes slow for a minute and then goes normal again.

Yeah. Mine does that after I go to the menu while on an app or if I go full speed and when I start up and shut down the ps4. Not that big of a deal like I said. I'm just worried that something is wrong. Do you think anything is qrong?

As it seems to affect all of us, I'd say it's normal. :D

Same for me. Not sure why, can get frustrating and surely there is enough under the bonnet to run the standard bespoke ps4 software, designed and approved by Sony!

I've just done as  suggested and it seems to be running a bit quicker now for me.

Although, it's put all guff back at the front of my list. I don't want Playroom or PS Video. :(

I'm going with the theory that it is my 2tb HDD. It's a lot to process and of course there will always be a few bugs because nothing is perfect no matter how much you hope it is.

But I hear you. It is very frustrating because you pay all of this money and then you need to worry about something being wrong.

The unwanted/unused app tiles will get pushed down out the way if you don't use them after playing a few different games.Similar happened on PS3 after running safe mode rebuild the database with the game list etc.

My ps4 starts up really slow all of the sudden and I stare at the flow theme background for about 5 min before the game icons and other stuff appears.
