Ps4 slim upgrade to pro data transfer via external hardrive?

Created 27/07/2019

I have a ps4 slim with an external hardrive connected I was wondering if it was possible to do a full data transfer to ps4 pro by using the external hardrive instead of The Ethernet/LAN method. What I mean by full data transfer is profile, trophies, themes, game installs and saves and images and videos.

If some kind soul could explain how to do this or correct me if I’m wrong as I’m not that technically proficient.

To my knowledge I would first backup the external hardrive on the slim then stop using it as extended storage, the next step would be to setup the ps4 pro as per normal and sign in, then remove th external hardrive from the slim and connect it to the pro and restore the back up with all the data to which all this data would be transferred to the pro right? Then start using the hardrive as extended storage on the pro and activate it as the primary device, in theory would this work?

No, that is not quite correct.

What you need to do is to stop using the extended storage on the current ps4.

Then use the network connection method to transfer your user profile to the pro. Because most of your games are on the extended storage device, this will be a quick exercise.

Then start using the pro, check you are using the correct psn I'd, connect the extended storage device, start it and everything will be as it was before, except faster :)
