PS4 Pro Overheating and Fan Problem

Created 23/08/2019

I have a PS4 Pro that's about 3 years old. I've cleaned it recently by removing any dust from the vents and cleaning the fan. I haven't been able to clean the heatsink or replace the thermal paste. The fan becomes very loud during a lot of games and in the last 2 days has overheated several times trying to play the Modern Warfare Alpha. The console isn't too hot to the touch and I've definitely felt it hotter without overheating and shutting down. It overheats as soon as I enter a certain menu screen but the loud fan occurs across most games. I can seem to stop it from overheating by power cycling then I can play the game normally but the fan is still very loud.

I'm just wondering what you think the best course of action is. Repair, replace, just clean it more thoroughly beyond removing dust from the fan?

Thanks.

At 3 years old, provided you haven't got an extended warranty running, your warranty was up with Sony 2 years ago. I'd crack it open and give it a good clean out and pop some Arctic silver 5 on it, or if you can get some, Thermal Grizzly.

If it's any consolation the latest revision of the Pro the CUH-7216b model is quiet as mouse and has much improved cooling compared to the launch model. I have owned a Glacier White Pro for just over 6 months even during the recent hot weather it hasn't produced any loud fan noise.
