PlayStation Stuck in Safe Mode!

Created 16/06/2019

Hello everyone. Just like to ask for some help as one of my play stations are stuck in safe mode. We have tried ALL OPTIONS. We have restarted, initalised it, even initialised with a system reset update. We have rebuilt the data base and any other options I’ve missed. So is there any advice?

Does it say it's updated then reboot into safe mode or is there an error message /code?

You don't happen to have a spare 2.5" hdd around you could try, as it is possible your hard drive is faulty?

I thought there might have been a reply by now, but evidently not yet.

Oran_Gina there is no error message for it and it asks for an update with a USB which we have already done.

Right, I suspect its actually asking for "the update file for reinstallation"

You're just using the regular update, which won't work.

    Go to https://www.playstation.com/en-gb/get-help/ps4-system-software/

Use the download link in this section. Make sure to delete any previous update files you may have on usb stick and pc before downloading.

    Scroll all the way down the page to the section titled;

Perform a new installation of the system software

This procedure is for initializing your PS4 system and performing a new installation of the system software, such as for when you replace the hard disc drive.

Be careful when using an update file for reinstallation. All users and all data will be deleted.

The following things are needed to perform the update:

    PS4 system

    Computer connected to the Internet

USB storage device, such as a USB flash drive

        * There must be approximately 1.1 GB of free space.

    1. On the USB storage device, create folders for saving the update file.

Using a computer, create a folder named "PS4". Inside that folder, create another folder named "UPDATE".

    2. Download the update file, and save it in the "UPDATE" folder you created in step 1.

Save the file with the file name "PS4UPDATE.PUP".

[DOWNLOAD NOW] Click to start the download.

    3. Turn off the power of your PS4 system completely.

Check that the power indicator is not lit. If the power indicator is lit up in orange, touch the power button on the PS4 system for at least seven seconds (until the system beeps a second time).

    4. Connect the USB storage device that the update file is saved on to your PS4 system, and then touch the power button for at least seven seconds. The PS4 system starts in safe mode.

    5. Select [Initialize PS4 (Reinstall System Software)].

Follow the screens to complete the update.

If your PS4 system does not recognise the update file, check that the folder names and file name are correct. Enter the folder names and file name in single-byte characters using uppercase letters

If it's still in warranty, navigate to the top of this page, select help and choose the Fix and Replace option.

I would suggest replacing the HDD and the re-installation update file is over 1GB these days, I should know I have swapped HDD's between my original PS4 and new Pro a few months ago.
