Can I access files on a shared network drive?

Through the PS4 I can see my NAS and desktop PC on the network.  When I open the NAS, all the files stored on it are available to view on the PS4 though they are sorted into folders like 'video' and 'music' rather than being explorable via their storage folders.

Anyway, this isn't the case with the PC; a variety of category folders show up, but no files.  I have a large external hard drive attached to the PC that is shared on the network; other computers can explore this drive easily via the network.  I want to be able to view the stuff on this drive on the television though.  I've so far failed at doing so with the smart TV, so I was hoping the PS4 could do the job instead.  Is this possible?

I doubt it would be possible due to the PS4's closed source OS similar to the TV.
