Keeping location and identity secret on PSN

Thanks for looking.

I work with a domestic abuse refuge (where parents and their families seek refuge from an abusive partner) and one of the residents sons, would like to use his playstation. There is a debate going on about whether or not the location of the playstation could be given away (from the device, playing online games or through PSN) somehow. That would obviously compromise the safety of the family as well as the other residents in refuge.

As a short cut, I thought I would pop a post on here to understand the significance of the risks. Does anyone know about disclosure of any location details either from the device playing online games or sending messgaes from a PS4? Obviously keeping the location of the families in refuge is paramount for my client. Any comment or additional information would be gratefully received.

Thanks.

PSN itself should not reveal any information but other factors potentially can; multiplayer games, chat, messaging for example.

An account can be set to appear offline, though the above factors will still apply.

Using a new account could be an option though would still be open to the same factors. The thing that let's both these down is the human element.

The only sure ways to remain secure and not stand any chance of being trackedd/traced would be to not connect to the Internet at all and play offline, or simply not play at all.

You say that chat, messaging or multi-player games has the potential to give away location data. Can you please expand? What is disclosed? IP address? anything else?

    Thanks

IP address can be obtained if using some  multiplayer games that use peer to peer connections.

Chat/messaging is open to people divulging their information voluntarily. Even responsible adults get caught out with this, so a child is even more likely to tell someone who and where they are.
