Infect your PSP with Resistance: Retribution

Battle the Chimera in this gripping next chapter of the Resistance saga on PSP. Set between Resistance Fall of Man and Resistance 2, Retribution will fill the gaps on what happened to Europe during the invasion.

The twisted story of the Chimera continues in Resistance: Retribution, the kinetic new entry in the alternate history sci-fi saga that sees you take on the role of James Grayson, a hardened trooper in the British marines. Grayson's story is a dark and disturbing one. Stumbling upon a Chimera conversion centre, the marine and his squad discover his brother Jonny, who has been converted to a Chimera using the vicious aliens' unholy conversion technology, and is forced to execute him, turning his world upside down and destroying him in the process.

Deserting the army and his squad, Grayson becomes obsessed with decimating every conversion centre he can find, destroying over 25 of them in the process of his vengeance-fuelled rampage. Despite his bullet riddled crusade, Grayson is soon captured by the army, tried and sentenced to death for going AWOL. Soon after imprisonment he's summoned by the European Resistance, the Maquis and the British Marines to embark on a mission with Rachel Parker and Cartwright, who both appeared in Resistance: Fall Of Man alongside the PS3 series' lead character, Nathan Hale. Grayson's orders are to do exactly what he's best at: shoot to kill and blow up every conversion centre both he and his squad come across.

    New weapons, new moves

Utilising the very same pioneering control system that the developer harnessed for the Syphon Filter games on PSP, you control Grayson's movements with the analog stick and his point of view with the X, Circle, Triangle and Square buttons. Using the directional buttons Grayson will either snap to cover or leap over obstacles, depending on the context, or open up his weapon inventory.

As you battle hordes of Chimera enemies mastering the cover is essential if you are to survive the onslaught and make it to the end of the breathtaking story, which takes place in between the events of Resistance: Fall Of Man and Resistance 2.

Grayson's also got a substantial arsenal of weaponry to hand too, which includes everything from machine guns to the XR-004 Allure, Plasma Grenade, Longbow 1S-1K and Bullseye, all of which will save your skin more than once in the fight against the Chimera.

As you progress through each of the missions, aside from your primary goal in that stage, there are a number of skill point objective to be completed which, if completed, open up hidden extras such as movies and music from the game. These goals can range from simple things such as taking down enemies with a certain number of headshots using the sniper rifle or to more difficult tasks such as wiping out a horde of Leapers before they attack your mission cohort.

    Spreading the virus

And aside from plenty of in-game goals there's the added bonus of Resistance: Retribution's Infection mode. To trigger this great new mode you'll need a PS3 and a copy of Resistance 2. From there you connect your PSP to your PS3 using a USB cable and then power up Resistance: Retribution's main menu. You're then presented with the option to either infect your copy of Resistance or activate the Resistance: Retribution Plus mode.

The first infects Grayson with the same virus Nathan Hale had in the PS3 editions, allowing him to breathe under water and regenerate his health. Plus, Grayson will also be kitted out with a new suit identical to the one Hale wears in Resistance 2, as well as being awarded a powerful Magnum handgun. Resistance: Retribution Plus mode transfers your Wireless Controller to your PSP, allowing you to play the game without an aim assist and control Grayson's point of view movements with the right stick. It truly does offer up a variety of new and hugely intriguing ways to go back and play through Resistance: Retribution again and again.

    Bring the fight online

Plus, with the addition of a layered multiplayer experience that includes both Ad Hoc and Infrastructure Modes, there are five different types of modes for you to master alongside seven other players. Multiplayer also offers up 12 different ranks to ascend to, the ability to create clans and take part in ranked and unranked matches.

One of the great (and hilarious) additions to the multiplayer are the taunts, which you can perform over a fallen foe. These range from kicking dirt in the face of a dead enemy or dancing over their body to the sounds of techno music. They'll make you laugh if it's you doing the dancing, but if you're the fallen one you'll want to get back up and exact your revenge right away!

Featuring a hugely engaging storyline, a myriad of multiplayer modes, new weapons and a great new Resistance character in James Grayson as well as some old favourites, Resistance: Retribution is a must own for fans of the series and anyone with an interest in pulse pounding blockbuster action games.
