Thought this would be snuck into a State of Play event. Wasn't expecting a random announcement. Excitement!

Will we have a better forum by then to discuss the PS5?

    "holiday 2020"

So, for us non-americans that equates to pre-Christmas-ish  2020?

Yeah Sony confirmed it on their blog. Also look at the other PS5 thread, it'd got some juicy details. Like an SSD instead of HDD *shock*

    @TheGolden_Apple

The different PlayStation Twitter accounts around the world have been tweeting about it - https://twitter.com/PlayStationUK/status/1181551354092883970?s=20 (includes the link to the EU blog article)
And this thread came from a PlayStation UK staff member. It's true.

Taking my info from Gamespot here

First of all will you use the word Christmas. We all know its Christmas its been called Christmas for over a hundred years just say Christmas when we all know thats what you mean!

Secondly, why are you still pushing this wireless controller nonsense. yes it seems you have given us a larger battery capacity but GIVE US A WIRED OPTION so i dont have to buy two controllers. I dont care about VR or motion control they are silly gimmicks.

It's nice you have kept the disc drive I am happy about that and im assuming it will be backwards compatible as stated earlier, but why is game installation still mandatory? The whole point of buying a physical game is so I can avoid all that nonsense. If I wanted to download it id just buy the digital edition.

The trigger resistance sounds really cool although i dont know how annoying that is going to get.

Overall Im happy with the sound of whats going on I just wish they'd ditch the PSN fee

Nothing stopping you from keeping the wire plugged in at all times.

"why is game installation still mandatory?"

HDD and SSD can read data much quicker than any dvd drive can. If they stuck with the dvd drive then loading times would be much longer. You also wouldn't be able to have the big open worlds you have now. They would have to put more doors in to slow you down and give the game a chance to load.

That's the first time I've heard someone complain about a wireless contoller

Must be a terrible experience channel surfing on the TV

Rumours are that many VR titles will not be backwards compatable with PS5 with out people keeping an old DS4, due to the NO light bar on DS5 rumour thats been started by japan... this will also break playroom use on PS5
Only move games on PS VR will work on PS5 by default with out the light bar on controller...
Once the real DS5 turns up with a light bar VR users can rest again.... but with nearly a year to go this rumour from japan is putting a spanner in VR BC support...

Rumours are bound to happen, I'm guessing these stem from the  controller patent that's been doing the rounds recently.

We'll see. I'll be keeping one PS4 anyway so worst case is I'll just carry on using the pro.

SSD will be a huge step forward, but the capacity needs to be fit for purpose. Wating to see what the launch games are before committing to buy. Traditionally I wait a year but this time round I feel the need to buy.

Assume all our current VR set up's will not be useable on PS5?.

The leaked devkit picture (with the ugly V shaped devkit) has a controller that appears to have the touchpad, and no light bar. Possibly DS5?

PSVR2 confirmed to be releasing With PS5 next year... (price oF VR2 not announced)
SIE took this step to announce PSVR2 confirmed (with the usual SIE claues)
After microsoft boss confirmed that the new xbox ( two )  will NOT be pushing any VR headsets from microsoft VR currently at next year release ...

So Half life VR will not be on Xbox (two) and PC...
This will mean PS5 VR2 exclusive titles upgrade modes for VR titles are an option for the New "features not yet announced" PSVR2 Version 1... Not to be confused with PSVR1 version 2 that is currently on PS4..

Half-Life: Alyx will be on PC. It's already available to pre-order from Steam. In fact, I think PC is the only confirmed platform at the moment.

I have 0 interest in PS5. I will wait a few years until they finally release a console that isn't loud! Past 2 generations it's taken them multiple attempts. PS4 it took until C chassis and then they released the Pro which took them another 3 attempts to make it quiet. This gen has been great for games but the consoles have been absolutely terrible!
