    Excitement!

As an Aussie, it will be great to finally have Smirh and Warner back in the team for this. But unfortunately the time difference between here and Engkand means the matches aren't on at a time that I can really watch them. Might get to catch a few full matches, but they're all starting around 11pm (with a few earlier ones throughout the tournament).

Yeah, I'd probably have to put those as the top 4. New Zealand would be up there too.

Not sure of the groups and how the fixture works to make a prediction of who will make finals

Peggy mentioned the world Cup the other night and now I keep thinking about asking @nikcox out on a date to Edgbaston, but it's well expensive ennit.

(that's if you can even still get tickets?)

World Cup starting today with England vs South Africa.

Australia wearing a predominantly yellow uniform so we can hide our sandpaper :P

Haven't tried one yet but I was going to sample this "idiots guide to the world Cup" podcast.

Might give it a blast in a bit, but it's dangerous if I fall asleep at work.

Didn't expect England  to bowl out South Africa for a measly 207. Thought their 311 would take a bit of effort to defend.

I guess, you can't embarrass the hosts in the opening match so SA probably held back a bit (maybe a bit too much).

Not against South Africa, no. Afghanistan,  sure.

And only favourites cause it's played there. I'm sure us (now we have Smith and Warner back) and India are VERY close behind.

Pakistan played misarable today, bowled out for meagre 105. Bad start to big tournament from Pakistan.

Didn't  expect much from that match, or Pakistan at all in this tournament TBH. They're a great T20 team, but outside that they struggle. Try for 6's every ball on different pitches that aren't designed for that.

New Zealand destroyed Sri Lanka in the 3rd matxh of the tournament. Sitting just short of West Indies at the top of the ladder after 1 match.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan's middle batsmen put together a nice 83 run partnership against the Aussies, but then collapsed leaving us a total of 208 to chase.  Should be fine with that.

Only Bangladesh and India left to play their first matches. Bangladesh tomorrow against South Africa. India get to relax until Wednesday (also against South Africa).

Nice return to international cricket for Warner. 89 n/o leading Australia to victory yesterday.

Bangladesh on track to putting up a huge total from South Africa to chase. If they can keep their wickets, they should get up around 380+ at this rate (based on the average of doubling your total in the last 20 overs)

Well, they slowed down a bit, but pulled out 330/6

South Africa failed to chase 311 in match 1 at the same ground. Sure, Bangladesh don't have the bowlers England have, but still won't be an easy task for them.

Also, fun fact(s) - 330 is Bangladesh's highest EVER ODI total. And IF SA can chase it, it will be the highest successful chase in a world cup.

South Africa failed to make the 330 set by Bangladesh leaving them 0 wins from 2 matches.

West Indies sit atop the ladder after the opening weekend. Followed by New Zealand,  England and Australia.

England vs Pakistan today (should be 2 from 2 for England)

Lol looking for a 30 run record there Ross. Better hope your batting is better than your fielding 😛

Yeah that surprised me when I woke up and looked at it. But any loss for England (and India) is a win for Australia in my books, so I'll take it.

Nothing against them, but more chance of easier teams in the finals for us lol .

Sri Lanka look to be handing it to Afghanistan at the moment.

Edit: 2 ducks straight after I posted that has hurt them 😂

Edit (again): Started 2/144 followed by 6/36 (so far). Collapsing in style.

Rain helped settle Sri Lanka into a wi . They got luck .

India starting their tournament today against a struggling South Africa squad who will be playing their 3rd match in a week, and are without their top bowler Dale Steyn.

The Pagasus' (🤣) should start with a win.
