Monster Hunter Wilds’ endgame might come as a surprise to new players. Three new campaign chapters are just the tip of the iceberg; read on to find out what else awaits you as a High Rank hunter.

Monster Hunter Wilds quest tips

The hunt never ends

Additional campaign chapters, dozens of side quests and new monster variants await once you reach High Rank.

Uncover the mystery of the Frenzy

Zoh Shia’s defeat is merely the halfway mark of Monster Hunter Wild’s thrilling story. A mysterious outbreak of Frenzied monsters threatens the balance of the Forbidden Lands, and it’s up to you to discover its source.

Unlike the previous chapters, progress is determined by your Hunter Rank, which you can raise by taking on Optional Quests and Field Investigations. Completing key campaign quests will also increase your HR ceiling, opening more challenging Optional Quests and Field Investigations.

Embark on Investigations

Viewing the world map shows which monsters are currently roaming each area. Press the Square button to access an area’s monster list, then select the one you’d either like to take on immediately or save for later in exchange for Guild Points. The latter lets you take on the same hunt up to three times via the ‘Investigations’ option when you chat to Alma. Pay close attention to the guaranteed drops, as this is a great way for you and your fellow hunters to gather rare resources.

Take on side quests

The endgame opens up dozens of side quests. Check your map to see who wishes to talk to you in each area. While all quests will reward you with useful items, prioritize your Palico’s requests to enhance their support abilities.

Monster Hunter Wilds exploration tips

Exploring the Wilds

Use the environment and ecosystem to your advantage.

Farm materials

If you’re running low on essential crafting materials, certain residents in settlements can be tasked with gathering materials while you play. Rather than visiting them all to retrieve the materials, check in with Nata at Base Camp. As the Village Intermediary, he’s also a central resource for performing trades and collecting ore from the Smelting Foundry in Azuz, which is essential for levelling up Artian weapons – more on those later.

Get smelting and melding

If your inventory is overflowing with excess monster parts and unwanted Decorations, there’s a couple of ways to recycle them into something more useful. Roqul in the Oilwell Basin settlement Azuz can smelt them into ore for Artian Weapons, or Armor Spheres for reinforcing your armor. Meanwhile, Vio in Suja can meld your unwanted Decorations and materials and transform them into Orbs (Wyverian Medling) or Artian weapon parts (Meld Relics).

Set up loadouts

As your collection grows and the monsters diversify, it pays to have loadouts tailored to your target’s strengths and weaknesses, as well as any debuffs both they and the environment may inflict on you. Press the L3 button in the Equipment and Item screens to access the loadout menu, where you can register your current loadout, equip other saved loadouts and rename them for quick identification.

Add charms to your Item Pouch

The Armorcharm and Powercharm are items that can sit in your Item Pouch and provide a 12-point boost to your defence and attack respectively. To obtain them, complete the Chapter 4 quest Lurking Shadows, then chat to Cobb in Suja to get the Secure Wounded Hollow Optional Quest. Completing it rewards you with the Armorcharm and triggers another Optional Quest from Cobb’s colleague Rex, which will earn you the Powercharm upon completion.

Monster Hunter Wilds armor tips

Protect yourself

Make yourself as monster-proof as possible — and look good while you’re doing it.

Pay attention to Decorations

Decorations are special jewels that you can slot into your armor and weapons to earn dozens of additional bonuses. These can be as straightforward as general attack and defence buffs, or more specialized enhancements that suit different weapons and monster types.

You’ll earn Decorations from most High Rank hunts – they first appear as Orbs for Sword (i.e. your weapon) or Armor and are then appraised to reveal a randomised Decoration. Pay attention to the number of triangles underneath the jewel icon, as you’ll need a slot in your weapon/armor with at least that number of triangles (from one to three) to equip it.

Know your α from your β

When forging High Rank armor, you’ll notice that a lot of them offer α (alpha) and β (beta) variants. Aside from a slight difference in colour, α parts provide more built-in bonuses at the expense of Decoration slots, while β parts reduce the preset bonuses for a greater number of Decoration slots. They also provide different Group Skills — additional bonuses unlocked by wearing multiple pieces of the same set — so be mindful of that if you plan to forge a mixed set.

Create vanity armor

Any piece of High Rank armor you forge can be applied as layered armor, which means that your character can switch out the appearance of your current armor without affecting your current stats, bonuses and Decorations. To change up your look, head to the nearest tent and select Equipment Appearance from the Appearance tab. You can also change the pigment of the armor to add an extra level of personalization!

Monster Hunter Wilds weapon tips

Learn the art of Artian weapons

Can’t find the right weapon? Then build your own!

Completing the Chapter 4 mission Wyvern Sparks and Rose Thorns unlocks the ability to forge Artian Weapons. These are special weapons that require three Artian Materials to craft. These materials fall into four categories, Blade, Device, Disc and Tube, and each weapon type requires a different combination.

Every Artian Material has an Element Type attached to it; craft using at least two materials of one element to guarantee that element. Three of the same type will provide an even greater element stat increase. The materials also have an Artian Bonus, either Attack Infusion or Affinity Infusion, which increases the respective stat.

Reinforce Artian Weapons by selecting Reinforce/Dismantle Artian Weapons in Gemma’s menu. This requires Reinforcement Materials, obtained from Nata or Roqul in Azuz via the Festival Shares option. Each time you level up, the Artian Weapon receives Reinforcement Bonus, such as an attack or element boost, up to a maximum of five bonuses.

It's also possible to dismantle an Artian Weapon, but you will only receive the Reinforcement Materials you invested, not the Artian Materials.

*Note that all Artian Materials must be of the same rarity.
