Care and maintenance

How to look after your PS VR system.

Always read the full instruction manual before you get started, but you can find a few important do’s and don’ts here to help you take the best possible care of your new PS VR.

How to handle the VR headset

  • Use both hands to hold the VR headset and only hold it by the headband.
  • Use both hands to adjust the VR headset’s position when you are putting it on.
  • Make sure the VR headset is tight enough that it’s not moving around as you wear it, but not so far that it feels too tight.
  • Loosen the VR headset using the scope release button before you take it off.
  • Clean the VR headset using a clean and dry microfiber cloth. We provided one with your PS VR unit.
  • Carefully remove the rubber light guard to clean it. You can use soap and water, but make sure it is completely dry before reattaching it.

  • Drop it! Accidental damage isn’t covered by the warranty. However, we may be able to repair it (payment required).
  • Leave the VR headset in direct sunlight as this may damage the lenses.
  • Disconnect the VR headset from the processor unit if the tracking lights are on as this may cause malfunction – switch it off first using the in-line remote power button.
  • Hold the VR headset by the scope (the section that goes over your eyes) or the cable
  • Place the VR headset on the floor or a chair in case it gets stood or sat on.
  • Use a damp cloth or any type of cleaning fluid or water to clean the VR headset (except for the rubber light guard).
  • Stand on the VR headset connector cable.
  • Put anything on top of it.

How to maintain the processer unit

If the indicator light on the processor unit is flashing red, the fan is making a loud noise or you see a message related to overheating on screen, it might be in danger of overheating. You can take a few simple steps to minimise the risk of overheating.

  • Place the processor unit in a well ventilated area.
  • Keep the processor unit as free from dust as possible with a dry cloth (don’t use the supplied microfiber cloth to help keep it as clean as possible for use on the lenses) and occasionally carefully use a vacuum to remove dust.
  • Make sure there is enough slack in the cable between the VR headset and the processer unit.
  • Place it as far away as possible from other devices that get warm.
  • If it has overheated, switch off your PS4 and the processor unit and wait for them to cool down. We recommend waiting around 30 minutes.  More information is in our PU Indicator Light article.

  • Place it on top of your PS4 system – this increases the chance of it overheating.
  • Block the fan ventilation.
  • Place the unit in a closed cabinet.
  • Place the unit in direct sunlight.
  • Put anything on top of it.
