How to use PlayStation 4 to set up ‘Require Password at Checkout’

This article explains how to switch this account function on or off on your PlayStation 4.

‘Require Password at Checkout’ is an account setting that stops you from spending wallet funds unless you enter your correct SEN account password. If you switch this setting on, you will be asked for your password whenever you make a purchase with wallet funds.

As this setting is on your account wallet please note the following:

  • The setting applies whatever device you use to access PlayStation Store through your SEN account.
  • You may not be asked for your password when topping up your wallet, as opposed to spending funds already in your wallet, whether ‘Require Password at Checkout’ is switched on or off.
  • You can't apply this setting to the accounts of Family Members, even if you are the Family Manager. This means that users under the age of 18 are never asked for their password before the Family Manager's wallet is debited for their purchase - use parental controls to limit spending.

How do I switch ‘Require password’ on or off?

  1. Select your local user account and press up on the control pad to access the Function menu and go to [Settings] > [PlayStation Network] > [Account Information] > [Wallet] > [Purchase Settings] and press (X button).
  2. Select ‘Require Password at Checkout?’ and select ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ to turn the password requirement on or off.
  3. Select ‘Confirm’ and press (X button).
