PS4: How to deactivate a primary system

Learn how and when to deactivate a PlayStation 4 system.

Each PSN account can have one PS4 activated as its primary system. The primary system will have access to any content or subscriptions purchased through PlayStation Store, and will allow other local users on the system to access that content. If you would like to change your primary PS4 system for any reason, the original system will need to be deactivated.

How to deactivate your primary PS4

  1. On your PS4 system, sign in to the relevant account.
  2. Go to   [Settings] > [Account Management] > [Activate as Your Primary PS4].
  3. Select [Deactivate] > [Yes].
  4. Your device is now deactivated and you can activate another PS4 as your primary system.

How do I deactivate my PS4 system if I don’t have access to it?

If you no longer have access to your PS4 system, you can remotely deactivate all PlayStation systems via account management. This will ensure that no one else can access your content.
