How to send text or voice messages on PlayStation Network

Find out how to manage messages on your PlayStation 4 system and PS App.

 
 

Send a message to one or more friends. You can also start a party with your group and continue exchanging messages after.  

How do I check for new messages?

When you sign in to PlayStation Network, the system will automatically check for any new messages and notify you if you have received any.

PS4

  • To check your current messages, press up on the DS4 control pad and go to  [Messages].

PS App

  • Go to [Messages]

How do I send a message?

PS4

  1. Press up on the DS4 control pad and go to [Messages] > [Create Message].
  2. Either select an Online ID from your Friends List or enter an Online ID into the search bar. Sending a message will create a group with the sender and recipients.
  3. Enter your message text, select [Send] and press (X button).
  4. To send your message with a screenshot or voice message, select [Attach] > [Select Screenshot] or [Record Voice Message] > [Send].

PS App

  1. Go to  [Messages] > [Create Message] and choose the Online ID of the person you want to send it to.

Delete a message

PS App

  1. Go to  [Messages] > [Options] > [Delete].
  2. Place ticks next to any messages you want to delete and tap [Delete].

How do I leave a group?

PS4

  1. Press up on the control pad and go to  [Messages].
  2. Highlight the group you wish to leave. 
  3. Press the [Options] button and select [Leave].

How do I choose who can communicate with me?

  1. Go to [Settings] > [Account Management] > [Privacy Settings] > [Personal Info | Messaging] > [Messages]. 
  2. Select who you would like to be able to send you messages — ‘Anyone’, ‘Friends Only’ or ‘No One’ — then select [Confirm] to save your changes.
