Heroes on call

Remember those days spent racing across the galaxy in pursuit of interplanetary renegades? When you could call on your trusty Omniwrench 8000 and a dash of daring to get you out of a spot of bother? You don't? Must be the space amnesia. Well, allow The Ratchet & Clank Trilogy on PlayStation Vita to jog your memory in barnstorming fashion.

Three spectacular PlayStation 2 adventures are bundled together in one stupendous package as a gigantic space odyssey. Discover how intrepid Lombax Ratchet met his loyal sidekick Clank in the very first adventure - Ratchet & Clank - and then rocket between planets collecting precious bolts, walloping dastardly alien life forms and saving the universe from the devious Chairman Drek.

Basking in the glory of their heroism, our odd couple are living the high life in Ratchet & Clank 2 - until a new emergency in the Bogon Galaxy jolts them into action. It's up to Ratchet to convince Clank, now a happy accountant, to down his calculator and embark on another quest.

Fame and fortune are the pair's reward, yet in Ratchet & Clank 3 another distress call sets them on their way back to Ratchet's home world of Veldin for a dangerous date with Dr Nefarious. Just a few minutes on Veldin or any of these other alluring planets will show you why these games are timeless classics.

Seeing stars

Journey through the galaxy with Ratchet and Clank to discover worlds of sparkling colour and vibrant detail. Thanks to laser-sharp visuals, the first three Ratchet & Clank games have never looked better than they do on PS Vita.

See stars whistle past your ship and into your living room as you zip between planets, while down on terra firma the world around you seems more dynamic than ever.

Attack-Copters swoop over your head, Drone Bots arrange themselves into intimidating defensive formations and in the skies above, machinery and transport craft shuttle this way and that. It's almost enough to make you forget your mission, although with impish and at times jaw-dropping enemies everywhere you turn, there's always something to sharpen your focus.

Extra bounciness comes from the soundtrack, with every attack or gravity-defying leap accompanied by a rush of music that makes it sound like you're the star of your own animated movie. Combined with The Ratchet & Clank Trilogy's dynamic visuals, it makes the Lombax's home galaxy a very tough place to leave.

Aim for glory

The solar system is your oyster in The Ratchet & Clank Trilogy, with exploration the heady seasoning and danger the spice. Add a pinch of Blaster ammo along with a splash of evil dictator's fury and a feast of interplanetary adventure awaits on PS Vita.

You can be sure that the sense of scale, of colourful new horizons being just beyond the next star cluster, is just as huge in each game. When you land your starship you'll be confronted with a distinctive environment full of intriguing pathways to unknown destinations, strange threats, hallowed golden bolts - to spend in special shops - and, better yet, an incredible new weapon or gadget.

Yes, your ingenuity and quick thinking is required to solve puzzles and crack tricky defences, but with a crazily destructive weapon primed, you'll be unstoppable. When you get your hands on the Glove of Doom, with its miniature, search-and-destroy robots, weapons in other games will just seem a little dull.

In the second and third instalments, weapons can be upgraded for even more devastation. That means the Suck Cannon vacuums up even more creatures to be fired as living, squishy missiles. The Morph-O-Ray, meanwhile, can turn bigger enemies into something a little more manageable: dancing chickens. Play The Ratchet & Clank Trilogy and discharge some humour and imagination with every shot.
