    The World Warrior

High Definition high-kicking arrives on PS3 with Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix

Fans of the long-running classic arcade brawler are in for a treat with the arrival on PlayStation Network of a High-Definition Street Fighter II game retooled for today’s play. Developer Backbone Entertainment has taken the original Super Street Fighter II Turbo and updated it with lavish High-Definition visuals for PlayStation 3.

The result is perfect for Street Fighter fans, newcomers and beat-‘em-up enthusiasts alike and sets the scene for the impending release of the next generation debut of the series, Streeter Fight IV. The game features the very same roster as its original counterpart including series regulars Ryu, Ken, Zangief, E.Honda, Balrog, Vega, Sagat and big boss man, M. Bison. All of these characters and others, including bonus character Akuma, can all be controlled by players in single player, two player and online play.

    A fighting chance

Offering up startlingly upgraded visuals the 2D sprites gamers the world over have grown accustomed to have been transformed into beautiful High Definition visuals that pop right off your screen.

Aside from the enhanced graphics, both the classic and the remixed modes are available and have also been rebalanced, with such alterations as Sagat’s ability to inflict damage toned down as well as Blanka being able to take more damage from a hit than in previous iterations. These changes were implemented with the aid of some of the world’s best Street Fighter players including the designer David Sirlin, who is also a renowned player on the Street Fighter tournament circuit.

These pivotal changes ensure both online and offline play is now much more balanced for both long term Street Fighter fans and newcomers looking for a nugget of nostalgia on PlayStation Network. Other new additions include a Training Mode that allows you to duke it out with an opponent who won’t fight back or get knocked out, meaning you can practice killer combos until you have absolutely nailed them and are ready to take the brawl online.

    Mixing it up

Both modes feature new and remixed versions of the memorable music, the ability to chat with friends (and opponents) over voice chat, a worldwide ranking system and leader board that is arranged by both character and by country. The game looks incredible, and plays just as good as when it exploded on to the arcade circuit during its original release.

The newly redesigned animation is simply stunning, and proves that Capcom are at the forefront of classic titles on PlayStation Network. Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix will instantly have you hooked once that old familiar character selection screen powers up on your PlayStation 3.

    The final fight

The game has been re-mastered in widescreen for remastered in High Definition for PS3 but if you are a purist at heart and prefer to keep things retro you have the option to switch to the standard 4:3 screen mode, which displays the game in exactly the same format as it did in the arcades back when it first launched. And for the combo masters hoping to show off some astounding battling skills, there are a whole host of new and devastating techniques for you to unlock in the remixed offering.

So, do you think you’ve got what it takes to become a master of martial arts in Capcom’s breathtaking update of a coin-up classic? Then, strap on a pair of gloves and a headband, grab a Wireless Controller and step into the ring to see if you can make it to the top as Street Fighter’s world warrior!
