PlayStation Store and game-disc region guide

Learn about PlayStation Store and PS4 game-disc regions, and how they affect downloadable content (DLC) and in-game currencies.

PlayStation 4 games are not region locked, but downloadable content (DLC) and service entitlements (including in-game currencies) are locked to their PlayStation Store region. If the region of the PS Store which sold the DLC does not match the region of the game disc, the downloaded content will not be compatible. As a result, it is recommended that you only purchase games from reputable retailers in your country.

Before you purchase a game disc, make sure that the region code matches the PlayStation Store region that you will be using to download DLC.

Where can I find the region code of a PlayStation game?

  • When purchasing, first check with the retailer to find out the region of the game.
  • If you have already purchased the game, check the spine of the game case or the front of the disc to find the region code. Region codes are usually comprised of four capital letters, a hyphen and a series of numbers e.g. CUSA-03974.
  • Look up the code online to find which region it corresponds to.

How do I check the region of my PS Store?

The region of your account and your PlayStation Store are the same. If you can’t remember the region of your account (selected during set up) you can check through account management:

  1. Sign in to PlayStation Store by selecting [Sign In] from the top right of the screen.
  2. Select your [Online ID] to reveal the [Storefront Country] dropdown.
  3. Your registered PlayStation Store country will show in the [Country/Region] field.

My game-disc region doesn't match my PS Store region

If the region code of your disc is different to the region of your PlayStation Store, DLC and service entitlements will not be compatible.

The region code of your account is selected at the beginning of the account creation process and cannot be altered later on. If your PlayStation Store region is not correct, you should create a new account with the correct region. If your game-disc region is incorrect, please contact the retailer.
