Can’t add credit or debit card to your account

Find troubleshooting steps to help link a payment card to your PSN account.

There are a few common issues that might prevent you adding a new payment card to your account. Here’s a quick troubleshooting guide to help you resolve any problems.

  1. Are there issues with the PlayStation Network?

Check PSN service status.

If PlayStation Network is experiencing issues, it may be possible that your payment information cannot be recorded. Check the PSN status page and wait until all services display a green light before re-entering your payment information.

  1. Does PlayStation Store accept the type of card?

While PlayStation accepts most payment cards, there are certain formats that cannot be used to top up your wallet. Take a look at our accepted payment methods to see if your card type is compatible with PlayStation Store.

  1. Have you double-checked the card details?

It might seem obvious, but make sure that all the information you have entered is correct. It is recommended that you enter your details exactly as they appear on your bank statements.

  1. Do your details contain any special characters?
  • If your name, address or flat number contain special characters, try replacing them with the nearest letter from the basic 26-letter Latin alphabet
  • Don’t use characters that aren’t letters, such as asterisks (*), hyphens (-), apostrophes (') or slashes ( / ).
  1. Have you made multiple changes to your card information?

PlayStation Store limits how often you can adjust payment information to help keep PlayStation Network as secure as possible.

If your account seems to be restricted, please wait 24 hours before attempting to add funds. If possible, use a PlayStation system rather than a web browser to add the funds.

If you would like to access PlayStation Store as soon as possible, you can use a different payment method or purchase PSN cards from a major game retailer.

  1. Do you have a child account?

Child accounts are accounts for players under the age of 18. You cannot add card details to this kind of account, but you can spend funds from the family manager’s wallet, within an allocated limit.

When child accounts are set up, they are automatically given a spending limit of 0. In order to use funds on a child account, you will have to ask the family manager to raise this spending limit. Once the limit has been set, you will be able to use funds from the family manager’s wallet. The family manager can find further information on the Parental Controls article.

If the issue persists, please contact your bank or card provider for more information. Make sure to have all of your security information to hand.
