What to do if your child is using a master account

How to be sure your children only use a sub account.

  1. How to make sure your child doesn’t have a master account.

Sub accounts can’t set parental controls

Go to [Settings] > [Parental Controls].

If you only see [Restrict Use of PS4 Features] and no [Sub Account Management] option, then your child doesn’t have a master account.

Sub accounts don’t have a wallet attached

Go to [Settings] > [PSN/Account Management] > [Account Information].

If you don’t see a [Wallet] option on this page, your child has a sub account.

  1. Stop your children from creating new users on the PS4.

This means they won’t be able to create an account with a false date of birth to get a master account.

Go to [Settings] > [Parental Controls] > [Restrict Use of PS4 Features] and enter your PS4 passcode. Select [New User Creation and Guest Login] > [Do Not Allow].

  1. Set a passcode
  1. Go to [Settings] > [Parental Controls] > [Restrict Use of PS4 Features] and enter your PS4 passcode.
  2. Select [Change Passcode] and choose a new one (don’t forget the default is 0000).
  3. Users will need to enter this passcode to make any changes to [Restrict Use of PS4 Features], so share the passcode with any other adults in the home.

What to do if your child is using a master account

You can take control of the master account to stop your child from using it to get full access to PSN.

  1. On the PS4 login screen select your child’s local user.
  2. Go to [Settings] > [PSN/Account Management] > [Account Information] > [Sign-In ID (Email Address)] and enter the account password.
  3. Change the Sign-In ID to an email address you have access to, but your child does not.
  • You might want to make a note of the email address your child used so you can use it to create a sub account for them.
  1. Verify that you made the change by clicking the link we’ll email to the address you provided.
  2. Go to [Settings] > [PSN/Account Management] > [Account Information] > [Security] > [Password].
  3. Enter the current password and the new one.
  4. You now have control of this account and you can create a sub account for your child using the instructions above.
