Using the PlayStation 4 Media Player

What is PlayStation 4 Media Player?

Media Player enables PlayStation 4 users to easily access and play personal photos, music and video files on their TVs that are connected to a PlayStation 4 system.  Users can send their files stored in DLNA compatible devices to their PlayStation 4 system via their home network. Users can also enjoy music while playing games, and add files to their “Favourites” so they can easily playback their favorite content.  Closed Captions are also available when users are viewing video files. Personal content cannot be shared via the SHARE feature.

If you are using a PlayStation 4 Pro, you can also use Media Player to play 4K video files in mp4 format saved on a USB stick or home server, as well as 4K VR content when using PlayStation VR. Note: You need to be using a 4K-compatible display device in order to view 4K content.

How do I access my files from an external storage device on Media Player?

In order to view or play files from an external storage device, such as a USB stick or external harddrive, video and image files must be saved within a folder on your storage device. Music files in particular must be saved within a folder titled "MUSIC".
