Ghostbusters III

Ghostbusters: The Video Game is based on the smash hit movie series and features a completely new story that reunites all of the original cast members to recapture the unique blend of humour and goofy horror that helped to establish the original film as a box success and pop culture sensation.

Written by original Ghostbusters writers Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd, Ghostbusters: The Video Game brings original cast members including Bill Murray and Ernie Hudson together again for the first time in over 20 years. The cast lend both their voices and in-game likenesses to this brand new story that takes place two years after the events of Ghostbusters II, with Manhattan once again overrun by ghosts and supernatural forces.

You'll get the chance to chase, attack and catch a containment unit full of ghastly ghosts in a series of funny and frightening battles to save New York from its latest supernatural plague. Who ya gonna call? Ghostbusters!

The new guy or girl

Joining the Ghostbusters team as an experimental equipment technician, you're tasked with being the new person on the team who has to try out all the very latest in ghostbusting technology. Once you've had a quick exploration trip around the famous firehouse in New York City, you're quickly called out to investigate a huge explosion that has rocked the New York museum and, more unnervingly, the Gozer exhibit housed there. Gozer, for anyone not up on their Ghostbusters history, was the villain of the first movie and the evil entity that almost brought New York to its knees before being foiled by the funny foursome.

Like its PS3 and PS2 counterparts, Ghostbusters on PSP encourages you to blow up everything in sight, racking up huge bills for the city to pay. Why? In this brand new story, Walter Peck, who appeared in the first film, is now your boss and the Ghostbusters want to make life as tough as possible for him by causing vast amounts of damage each time they are called out on the job. Walls can be scorched, furniture blown to pieces and priceless antiques can be smashed to smithereens with a simple blast of your trusty Proton Pack.

Once you find a spook on the run, you're required to blast it with your Proton Pack until its health meter is depleted. When that's down, you can then initiate the capture by holding down the R button to wrangle the ghost. You're then prompted to execute a series of button taps in Wrangling mode to slam the ghost up, down, left or right before ultimately draining it of all of its energy and lowering it into the trap you've tossed on the ground below it by pressing the down button. Of course, not all ghosts are easy to capture, so you'll have to have your wits about you to master the game's Wrangling technique.

Proton Packs

While your Blast Stream is your main source of firepower in Ghostbusters The Video Game, you'll also unlock a huge amount of additional weaponry in your battle against the marauding poltergeists of New York City. Proton Pack powered weapons include Boson Darts, volatile boson particles that overheat your Proton Pack quickly, and should only be used sparsely.

Then there is the Slime Blower Mark 2, a weapon that can exorcise possessed humans or objects, plus the Shock Blast, a powerful primary weapon that's extremely useful for close range combat and can do vast amounts of damage to any spooks that get a little too close for comfort. Throughout the game you'll have to master each one and judge which situation calls for the right kind of weapon as New York's ghostly world comes hurtling at you hell-bent on avoiding capture and an eternity trapped in the Ghostbusters' containment unit.

Cartoon capers

Ghostbusters The Video Game on PSP features a distinct art style, which makes it all the more endearing to pick up and play. At times it almost feels like you're in an episode of the original Real Ghostbusters cartoon that graced the small screen throughout the late eighties and early nineties. Plus, with a fanatically funny script by Aykroyd and Ramis, the jokes are slung thick and fast and will have you rolling in your seat from start to finish.

With additional cameos from stars of the film including William Atherton (Walter Peck), Annie Potts (Janine) and Charmed star Alyssa Milano as the damsel in distress, Ghostbusters The Video Game packs pint-sized blockbuster entertainment on PSP. Plus, with the famed firehouse always on hand to explore where you can replay past missions to better your score, and Tobin's Guide, an encyclopaedia of spectral knowledge, there's plenty of additional gameplay for you to explore in-between battling hordes of ghouls and ghosts.
