How to change your PSN online ID

Learn how to change your online ID on PlayStation™Network (PSN), and what to do if you experience issues with an online ID change.

How to change your PSN online ID

You can change your online ID as many times as you want. The first time is free. A charge applies for additional changes.

  1. Sign in to Account Management and select Profile from the sidebar.
  2. Select Edit next to your current online ID.
  3. Enter a new online ID and select Check Availability. If your new online ID is available, select Continue.
  4. Choose if you would like to display your old online ID next to your new online ID for 30 days.
  5. Confirm your purchase of your new online ID. After you complete the change process, you’re signed out of all devices.
  1. Go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Account > Profile > Online ID
  2. Enter a new online ID. If your new online ID is available, select Confirm.
  3. Choose whether you would like to display your old online ID next to your new online ID for 30 days.
  4. Select Order & Pay to confirm your purchase. After you complete the change process, you’re signed out of all devices.

  2. Enter a new online ID. If your online ID is available, select Continue.
  3. Choose if you would like to display your old online ID next to your new online ID for 30 days.

  1. Go to the Play menu by pressing the controller icon.
  2. Go to your profile by selecting your profile picture.
  3. Select Edit Profile and enter your password.
  4. Select Edit next to your online ID.
  5. Enter a new online ID and select Check availability. If your new online ID is available, press Continue.
  6. Choose whether you would like to display your old online ID next to your new online ID for 30 days.
  7. Finish the purchase of your new online ID. After you complete the change process, you're signed out of all devices.
  • PlayStation®3 and PlayStation®Vita games and apps do not support the online ID change feature.

Before you change your online ID

  • PlayStation®4 games may experience issues after an online ID change. Check if your game has been tested on the list of games tested with the online ID change feature.

  • If you experience technical issues, you can revert back to your original online ID for free. Reverting should resolve most issues caused by an online ID change.  
  • If your new online ID violates our Terms of Service, it will be changed to temp-xxxxxx. You can change it to a new online ID or revert back to your original ID.

What's an online ID?

An online ID is a unique display name used to identify you on PSN. You can check your current online ID by visiting your profile on your console or PlayStation®App.

  • Depending on your privacy settings, friends and other users can check your online status, activities, and profile by finding you with your online ID.
  • Your sign-in ID is the email address you use to sign-in to PSN.

Having online ID issues?

  • It may take some time for games, applications and services to update to your new online ID. In some cases, it can take up to a week for the change to register.
